Do the Bengals actually like Joe Burrow?

hear me out..

Joe Burrow is a generational quarterback with amazing intangibles, skill and talent. A 6’4, 215lb right handed quarterback who formerly won the Heisman and the National Championship, the quarterback aptly named “Joe Brr” is one of the best in the league every season .. when’s he’s actually on the field.

the nonchalant LSU alum, unfortunately, has missed significant time on the field, which at a point in time, begged the question: is it his durability, or other factors?

well.. it is in fact other factors. when the Cincinnati Bengals drafted Joe Brr with the 1st overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, they anticipated him to come in and change the game for them, which he did: having thrown the 4th lowest interception percentage for a rookie in NFL history and the best start for a Bengal in franchise history at a staggering 1.2%. however, he was only able to play until week 11 as he was hit low throwing a pass and tore his ACL and MCL, with damage done to his PCL and meniscus as well.

this was, of course, the beginning of the tale.

In 2023, he suffered a torn ligament in his throwing wrist which made him miss the rest of the season: once again only making it to week 11. and less then halfway into the 2nd game this season, he’s already been injured with Turf Toe and significant ligament damage to his foot.. which begs the biggest question: do the Bengals like and truly care for their superstar QB?

6 seasons in and Joe Brr has missed time in several seasons. his offensive line has collapsed on him frequently, leaving him unprotected and him running for his life in the pocket trying to make a throw or he finds himself blinking and ending up on the floor. i’m not discrediting the franchise as a whole, they’re putting up a fighting effort.. but in order for the team to experience success as a whole.. it’d be nice to see that offensive line hold up for him to make throws and display the talent that got him drafted. not to mention, he’s already been sacked over 200 times since his career started.. fears are rising with eerie similarities to the career of another talent who had no protection in the pocket, former Indianapolis Colts QB, Andrew Luck, who retired very early on.

he’s already shown that he has the talent to win on the biggest stage, having won a National Championship. but with no support to show that? it looks sad.

if things don’t get better.. there’s a chance we witness one of the sports’ brightest starts hang it up early.. while still in his prime.
